Just like how the human body runs on water, a car like the Nissan Altima needs several fluids to keep everything running smoothly. Most drivers know to have their oil changed regularly, but in order to stay a peak performance levels other fluids need to be monitored as well. At Cardinale Nissan, your local Monterey auto dealer, you will find exceptional Nissan car service and advice on how to properly maintain your vehicle.
Oil:
When the pistons of your car move in order to generate power, they need a lubricant to reduce wear and tear. As oil is used, it becomes dirty and less efficient, and can lead to permanent engine damage. Checking your oil levels is easy: simply pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, then insert and remove it. The level on the dipstick will indicate how much oil you have remaining.
Power Steering Fluid:
The power steering system makes turning much easier, and also adds to the car’s precision and handling. This fluid is usually stored on the passenger side of the car under the hood, and will often be labeled “steering.” Most cars have an opaque container so identifying the amount left is easy, but if not, simply clean the area around the cap before unscrewing it so no dust or debris enter the container.
Radiator Fluid:
Engine overheating can be a big problem during hot summer months, and radiator fluid helps prevent potential problems by cooling the engine down. Before you check the fluid level, make sure the car has been off for several hours and the engine is cold. Be sure to use a rag to unscrew the cap and then peer inside to judge the fluid level.
