It was in October, 1982, that the Nissan Micra was first launched in the Japanese car market. The aim of the brand was to compete against the top players at that time namely Toyota Starlet and Honda City and also to act as a substitute for the Nissan Cherry that had started outgrowing the supermini car segment.

Ever since it made its initial debut, there have been 4 different generations. The most recent generation made its debut in 2010. Since then Micra has been given a mid-cycle facelift but then it was time for the overhauling of it’s another generation and Nissan was in a testing phase by then.

But the Micra that is supposed to be unveiled next year is supposed to be a part of its fifth-generation. As of now, it appears that there has been a significant redesign over its prevailing model.

According to some sources, the new Micra will be using a platform called CMF B that has been made within the alliance of Renault-Nissan and is likely to underpin the Nisan Juke’s next-generation models.

It is also expected that the all-new Micra may get inspirations from some of the design cues from its other models such as Nissan Sway concept and Nissan Pulsar that was unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show of last year. Experts feel that this new Micra will be debuting at the later part of this year officially at the Paris Auto Show. However, there is no official declaration made about its release as of now.
