While National Parks month may not be till July, that doesn’t mean our hardworking staff at Cardinale Nissan can’t enjoy the beautiful areas around Monterey county. Two of our favorite locations to visit are Pinnacles National Park and Fort Ord Dunes State Park. Both of these are a great way to spend a day, either by yourself or with friends and family. Here are a couple highlights of these destinations:

 

Pinnacles National Park

This gorgeous landscape was formed many years ago after volcanoes erupted and flowed across North America, creating places full of caves and rock spires.  This area is one of the most unique places to visit in the state, with plenty of great trails and locations to hike through oak woodlands and canyon bottoms. Along the way you are sure to find wildlife amongst the trees and rocks, including peregrine falcons, golden eagles and the majestic California condor. Whether you are simply looking for a nice spot for a family picnic or a serious and strenuous hike, Pinnacles has it all.

 

Fort Ord Dunes State Park

For more coastal fun be sure to check out this exciting park by the sea. There are trails that bring you past over 20 miles of beaches, where the waves crest and you can smell the seafoam. #FortOrdDunesStatePark features five main types of sand dunes based on their age, from older stabilized dunes to unstabilized and active dunes. Along the rocky coastline you are sure to find one of the cutest sea mammals lying in the sun: the sea otter. Nearby you can also visit the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary for a closer look at a myriad of marine species.
