The electric vehicle that has taken the world by storm has allowed us to take a closer look into the actual components that make up the zero emission vehicle. Interestingly enough, most of its components are shipped from overseas – in fact, only 15% of the Nissan LEAF components come from within our country and 80% comes from Japan. However people have been taking notice which is why Nissan has decided to increase the number of components used that are made in America for the next LEAF model. Today, the assembly plant for the Nissan LEAF resides in Tennessee so there is high hope that the percentage of ‘made in America’ parts will increase in the near future. Brian Brockman, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications for Nissan, commented that the percentage of the next LEAF model will be comparable to other US-built advanced vehicle technologies.
