The Nissan Altima made its way to the spotlight at the New York Auto Show and surprised many. Mamoru Aoki, Nissan’s Global Design Chief has worked diligently towards bolstering the brand’s middling image and catapulting the Altima sedan into the top of the mid-sized family car segment. Although these have been two very challenging goals, he believes that the new design language which premiered in the third-generation Murano will be critical in implementing change. Aoki said, “We intentionally made this car look very different from the normal sedan. To have consistency is of course a target. But to be differentiated from the other companies is the main thing.” The new Murano is stunning and has completely reinvented what a sedan should look like and drive like.
