An e-powered car functions a little bit differently. The motor works primarily as a generator, creating electricity which charges the battery. The internal combustion engine itself is not directly linked to the wheels, but rather an electrical engine is. This is what provides the necessary power to get the wheels turning. Most importantly, these changes allow the internal combustion engine to operate at the revs best suited for a reduced power consumption, saving on electricity and gas.
