Nissan’s Front Engine GT-R LM NISMO Racer

Nissan is on its way to the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year with a new race car set for the Super Bowl. There has been an enormous amount of speculations regarding what the new race car will look like and although no one is for certain, rumors are it will feature a front-mid-engined, hybrid powertrain. The race car is said to feature a rather large snout compared to the other prototypes and the idea of hosting a front-mid engine car has given rise to several interesting packaging rumors. Nissan has been testing their LMP1 racer at the Nissan Technical Center in Arizona and the technical details on the new car have been kept under wraps. Nissan Licensed its Around View Monitor & Moving Object Detection Tech

Nissan recently announced that it has licensed its Around View Monitor and Moving Object Detection (MOD) technology, which was developed with Clarion Co., LTD, for use by Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd (HCM). This new technology will be a building block for autonomous driving technology for commercial Nissan vehicles. The Around View Monitor (AVM) is a parking support system that allows you to see the vehicle’s surroundings in real time using four exterior cameras. MOD is a driving assistance technology that analyzes images from the AVM cameras to detect moving objects around the vehicle and warn the driver with visual and audio alerts. The licensing agreement between Nissan and Hitachi Construction Machinery allows HCM the use of AVM and MOD technology on its massive haul trucks and hydraulic excavators working at large open-pit mines. Carlos Ghosn Discusses Zero-Emission Cars

Renault-Nissan Alliance CEO Carlos Ghosn explains why electric cars are the future. The Alliance sold its 200,000th zero emission car and the it only launched four years ago. The Nissan LEAF is by far the top selling electric vehicle worldwide and sales are up by 20% this year. Carlos believes that people are switching to EV’s for several reasons; the first is that they are convenient. They can be refueled at home or at the office from multiple energy sources. Along those same lines, EV’s are economical – even with gasoline prices falling, Consumer Reports recently estimated operating costs of a Nissan LEAF in the United States at 3.5 cents per mile. Lastly, Carlos believes that EV’s are fun and reliable: Globally, the Nissan and Renault EVs have the highest customer satisfaction rates than any same brand vehicle. Nissan Turns to the Automakers of Tomorrow for Inspiration

During Children’s Day at Nissan Brazil, workers’ children were asked to submit an entry into the “Automobile of the Future” drawing contest. A team at Nissan Design America Rio was asked to judge the contest, and they ended up going way beyond and transforming the selected winners into real sketches. Winners were chosen after Children’s Day and the team of judges were blown away with the level of creativity exhibited by the kids.  “The joy of working with children is the opportunity to deal with freedom from all restrictions,” said Robert Bauer, designer-in-chief of Nissan Design America Rio (NDA-R). “There are no limits when it comes to the kids’ imagination. As professional designers, we can see through the imagination of a child and realize what is possible. Kids allow themselves to draw anything and change the perspective. They don’t think outside the box because they don’t have this ‘box.’ There is something refreshing in working with the kids – the joy of life and their sharp sense of recreating the world are very inspiring. In all the drawings recreated in our studio, we noticed a concern with people, the environment and its preservation. It was wonderful to share our studio with them because they are our future, and they create worlds adults could never imagine. It is an experience that brings us energy and makes us rethink our concepts.” If you would like to read the full article please click on the link below:

Nissan’s Self-Cleaning LEAF Begins Social Media Campaign

The world’s cleanest car has hit the streets in mist of a social media campaign. Nissan launched a campaign that includes a series of online videos to showcase a zero-emissions Nissan Leaf with self-cleaning nano-paint technology. “The LEAF is already one of the cleanest vehicles around even without this incredibly innovative paint technology; that said, we’re not afraid to get our hands dirty to take this to the next level,” said Pierre Loing, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. “Getting fans involved via this social media campaign is a fun, creative way to show how the LEAF can stay clean no matter how dirty the world around it may be. A marriage with the Ultra-Ever Dry® exterior coating truly puts this LEAF in a league of its own, and we’re excited to see where this technology can take us.” If you would like to read the full article please click on the link below:

Nissan Advertisements to Return to Super Bowl

Nissan announces that it will return to Big Game TV advertising for the first time in seventeen years. Nissan has lined up the dream team of experienced Super Bowl marketers and has purchased a 60-second spot during the Suoer Bowl XLIX on NBC, on February 1st from Phoenix. Nissan’s timing to include advertisements in this upcoming Super Bowl could have something to do with the company’s hot U.S. sales performance in 2014 and its need for some brand tweaking; Nissan also revealed that it could be due to the fact that the Super Bowl will apparently be less crowded with automotive brands than it has been in several years, with Volkswagen leading handful of notable car-brand defections so far. Nissan Now Offers Free Public Charging for New LEAF buyers in Atlanta

As customers flood local stores this week looking for Black Friday deals, Nissan is offering Atlanta buyers of the all-electric LEAF its own money-saving holiday special: no cost public charging for two years. “Atlanta is America’s biggest market for LEAF, and access to free public charging can enhance the convenience electric car and motivate additional consumers to make the switch to Nissan LEAF,” said Brendan Jones, director, Nissan Electric Vehicle Sales and Infrastructure. “As the top-selling electric car brand, Nissan is actively working with key partners to ramp up charging infrastructure in Metro Atlanta to make more charging options available for the thousands of area LEAF owners.” Atlanta has been a crucial LEAF market since mid-2013 due to a variety and high occupancy toll lanes and a number of major companies who now provide workplace charging for their employees. Nissan Gives Your Rearview Mirror a New Purpose

Rearview cameras will be required on all new cars by May 2018; however, Nissan has taken the next step forward by adding the benefits of a camera to the rearview mirror. Nissan is calling this the “Smart Rearview Mirror” – although it may appear to look like a standard mirror, the driver is able to flip a switch in order to get a much clearer view of what is behind the car. This makes it easy to see behind tall passengers, headrests and piles of suitcases. The mirror meets federal regulations and is available if the camera ever fails, or if the customer prefers to go old school. Nissan Facility is Largest Automotive Plant in North America

Everyone in the automotive industry has tapped the brakes in October for the third straight month, slowing the North American’s overall manufacturing output; however, Nissan’s Smyrna plant is doing the complete opposite of that. Justin Saia, Corporate Communications Manager, Nissan North America, said: “The Smyrna plant is actually the largest producing automotive plant in North America through the first 10 months of the calendar year, with production up nearly 14% year-over-year.” Sources reported that auto production fell 1.2% in October, 1.9% in September and 7.2% in August; despite the downfall in production, auto sales were strong in October.
