There are a number of specialty turns and maneuvers you can use to get out of or into some tight situations. The most popular is the U-Turn, which is always handy for when you accidentally drive by your location and need to turn around. Parallel parking allows for numerous cars to fit onto the sides of streets or busy roads. Also popular is the J-turn, in which a car goes from forward to reverse while only moving in a confined space. Recently, a driver piloting the Nissan Juke, with the help of its Intelligent Around View Monitor (AVM), performed a J-turn “blind” and set a new world record.
It may come as a strange surprise, but there are official records for performing each of these maneuvers, and they even have a “sighted” and “blind” category. The sighted category allows for the use of both cameras and regular vision, but the blind category requires all the windows to be blacked out so the driver must rely on the car’s cameras. Fortunately, the #NissanJuke is one of the few cars to feature an Intelligent AVM, which gives a crystal clear image of the surroundings along with a 360-degree bird’s eye view.
The turn was completed by stunt driver Paul Swift, who had to pivot the car 180-degrees around in a space only 18 cm longer than the car itself. Suffice to say, that is no simple task, even when having full vision. Swift was able to complete the turn in record time, setting a new blind record and even tying the time for a sighted turn. He added, “I can really see how using the AVM technology in everyday driving situations would be a real benefit to Nissan customers.”
You too can try out the AVM system by test driving the 2017 Juke at Cardinale Nissan, the number one Monterey car dealership. We have great deals on new cars like the Nissan Maxima, and you can check us out online at www.cardinalenissan.com.
